When Mr Uren retired from driving in 1995 the Lancia was passed on to a work associate, Mr T. Glanville, a promise Mr Uren had made many years earlier. I purchased the car from Mr Glanville on the 24th August 1995 at which stage it had covered 21,000 miles. Original purchase invoice, handbook, service book and history from new.
In the mid 90's I used the Lancia a lot and I rate them as a really fun, usable, affordable toy. It will still sit happily on the autobahn at over 100 mph and reach 120. The specification was so advanced when the Beta Coupe was launched including Front Wheel Drive, Lampredi Twin Cam engine, 5 speed gearbox, disc brakes all round and proper independent suspension. The Bumpers, trim & window frames are all polished stainless steel. The dash is an 8 clock unit with speedo, rev counter, water temp, fuel level, battery condition, oil pressure, oil temperature and oil height gauges! The only modifications are the 15" Revolution wheels and a performance air filter. I have the original parts & wheels. In 2001 / 2002 the outer body was stripped of all trim & front wings removed as they showed corrosion along the tops. The only other corrosion found was to the top of the inner wings (No wheel arch liners on these early cars). £2,000 was spent on having the work professionally completed and the outer body cosmetically painted. The shell is incredibly original including sill, floors, front & rear struts with no evidence of any repairs. The car has been correctly stored and regularly run. It has only covered about 200 miles since 2002 so it really seems time to find a new home with someone who has more time to enjoy her. I also have some spares including a pair of new front struts and rebuilt rear brake calipers imported from Italy that will go with the car. Just fully serviced including cam belt & brake fluid change and new MOT.
